Field and Clinical Experience Application System (FCEAS)

All field and clinical experience placements are made through the Office of Field and Clinical Experiences (OFCE). OFCE works with course instructors to ensure that candidates are placed at appropriate sites and in appropriate classrooms. Candidates are not permitted to seek their own placements. The Field and Clinical Experience Application System (FCEAS) was developed to provide an automated and thus user-friendly process for application for field experiences.

Once applications are submitted to the OFCE, requests will be compiled and sent to schools. As soon as placements are confirmed, candidates will be notified of their host schools/teachers via email. Candidates are expected to contact the school immediately and arrange to begin school visits.

Experience Descriptions

Early Field Experiences

Early field experiences provide opportunities for teacher education majors to observe licensed teachers in a variety of settings to develop the skills, knowledge, and dispositions required for success in the field of education.

Candidates are expected to pick up an Early Field Experience Packet from the OFCE once placement is confirmed. The Early Field Experience packet will include a log sheet and evaluation form.

Preclinical Experience

The preclinical is a semester-long supervised field experience that allows teacher candidates to demonstrate and refine the skills, knowledge, and dispositions necessary for a successful student teaching semester.

Student Teaching

Student teaching or clinical practice is the capstone experience for teacher education candidates. Clinical practice is defined as “Student teaching or internships that provide candidates with an intensive and extensive culminating activity. During clinical practice candidates are immersed in the learning community and are provided opportunities to develop and demonstrate competence in the professional roles for which they are preparing”.
